Head of Philanthropy Advisory Team

To advance the mission of Operation Mobilization, the Head of Philanthropy Advisory Team will help develop and execute strategies for the generation of major, mid-level and planned gifts and grants in support of the mission and vision of OM, and recruit, train and coach front-line fundraisers towards the fulfillment of these strategies. The leader will collaborate across OM USA and the OM movement globally, raise the bar of excellence in donor relationships and actively engage their team in OM culture with a Christ-centered, positive and innovative spirit.
Job Summary
The Head of Philanthropy Advisory Team will revise and execute OM’s financial development strategy for major, mid-level and planned giving that leads to significant growth in project giving, undesignated giving and planned giving. This role will grow a culture of collaboration among the Philanthropy Advisory Team so that they are known as being great team players and positive, innovative thinkers. Finally, this role will maintain a high level of staff engagement and improve performance through accountability, coaching, and training.
Responsibilities and Duties
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as an active participant of the Advancement Leadership Team
Directly manage a team of major and mid-level gift officers through:
Facilitating team meetings.
Regular coaching that is rooted in the concept of ministry to donors through the fundamentals of the donor cycle.
Delivering or otherwise providing training programs for continuing education.
Setting expectations and holding the team accountable through performance reviews and performance improvement plans as needed.
Developing strategies for each tier of donors that attain annual and five-year goals.
Revising and utilizing quantitative metrics analysis to determine priorities, activities, and accountability.
Carry a portfolio of up to 25 principal and major funders (households, foundations, etc.) by:
Developing and executing a moves management plan for each portfolio.
Collaborating with others as needed to meet goals, including the President/CEO, communications and stewardship, and OM fields globally.
Meeting revenue goals.
Collaborating with other OM USA teams to provide resources and systems infrastructure that helps the team meet its revenue goals.
Being a student of OM USA culture and infusing that culture into the Philanthropy Advisory Team.
Educating and encouraging the immediate and wider team as to the benefits and logistics of non-cash giving (including stocks, real estate, business interests, QCDs, bequests, etc.).
In collaboration with the Chief Advancement Officer, marketing team, and Advancement Operations team, analyzing the metrics of the organizational donor base to determine opportunities to better minister to donors through portfolio movement.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Interview, select, hire, train, and assign subordinate staff.
Provide direction and mentoring, develop and communicate performance metrics to assess the effectiveness of staff, both as a team and individually. Evaluate performance and provide training and coaching to employees.
TEAM PARTICIPATION:
Each team member is expected to participate in the team life activities of OM, including:
Team events that focus on prayer, fellowship, training and development
Task forces or working groups that facilitate cross-department collaboration
Modeling the culture of OM USA
OTHER DUTIES:
Perform or assist with any assignments as required or directed.
This position may require lifting up to 25 lbs.
Use personal computers and peripherals, network systems, standard and customized software applications and tools, and usual office equipment. es is brief but comprehensive. Also emphasize the duties that may be unique to your organization.
Qualifications and Skills
- At least seven years of mega and major gifts development in a large, nationwide setting, preferably as part of a nationally-deployed team.
- Experience hiring, training, leading, and inspiring a diverse team of major gift and planned giving professionals is preferred.
- Proven experience directly inviting and securing financial gifts from individuals and foundations at the six- and seven-figure level.
- Ability to build effective relationships with senior leadership, field leaders, and board members (in addition to donors).
- Self-motivated and results-oriented, with a positive, humble, and collaborative approach.
- Ability to communicate OM’s mission with clarity, conviction, and enthusiasm.
- Demonstrated discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write and speak clearly and effectively, and to listen well.
- Bachelor’s degree required; CFRE certification preferred.
- Demonstrates personal and professional integrity consistent with OM USA’s values.
